Whether you are ready or not the days are ticking away, the festive adverts are on TV and there is even tinsel on the supermarket shelves. With everything that has happened over the last couple of years, you will not be alone if you have a bit of an inner Grinch rather than a cheery elf. Several local events have caught our eye and we think these are the perfect way to get into the Christmas Spirit. So why not join us in celebrating everything that is great in Bath this winter and supporting these fabulous local events.
The light trail
One thing that we never tire of, living and working in Bath, is the beauty of the city. Our beautiful Georgian streets are a stunning backdrop to our lives, and they come alive in a very special way at this time of the year. The Bath Christmas Light Trail fills our buildings and most iconic streets with magical illuminations, and the big switch-on is on Thursday, 25 November at 5pm in Milsom Street.
The Artisan Christmas market
We have always been big fans of the Christmas market here at The Apartment Company; it really is a feast for the senses. There is so much to see, delicious treats to taste, the festive aromas fill the air as you hum along to the tunes that are playing throughout the stalls. We cannot wait for the artisan market, bursting with its gathering of independent artists, designer-makers, vintage sellers and local food producers. The market opens on the 20 November until the 19 December – we know we will be regular visitors.
Dancing on ice
What better way to get into the festive spirit than to pop on a pair of skates and dance around an ice rink. OK so you may have a technique more like a baby lamb than an elegant gazelle, but who cares what you look like when you are having so much fun. So grab a group of friends and go and glide, stumble, or leap your way across the ice. The ice rink is open now, until the 3 January 2022.
Museum of the Moon
Definitely on our must-see list is the incredible touring exhibition by UK artist Luke Jerram, Museum of the Moon, at Bath Abbey. ‘The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.’ The exhibition will be part of a series of events at the Abbey which will also include Christmas carols and magical storytelling. The Museum of the Moon will be on display from 20 November until Christmas Eve.
Mary's Christmas at Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein
Now if you’re looking for something a little darker than the glitz and sparkle, how about venturing over to Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein for Mary's Christmas? Step into the dark world within an interactive multisensory experience and escape room, which our team are determined to complete. This will be a different kind of Christmas experience, but we know it will be some Franken-fun for the festive season.
Bath at Christmas really is magical
Visit West Director of Tourism Kathryn Davis added: “Bath is a beautiful destination at any time of the year, but it truly sparkles at Christmas. There is so much to look forward to during the festive period, with seasonal experiences further enhancing the already impressive visitor offer … With a rich array of hospitality, entertainment and beautiful places to stay, Bath at Christmas really is magical.”
We look forward to seeing you at one of these wonderful local events, and also to seeing your photos of your experiences.
