Celebrating the importance of home

Celebrating the importance of home

Posted on Monday, June 8, 2020

Over the last few weeks our homes have become more important than ever.  They have been our sanctuary, our place of work, school, and also the place where we socialise, virtually, with family and friends.  There is no place like home, even if it has felt frustrating at times to be confined there.  We all have stories about what our homes have meant to us, but regardless of the situation the sense of ‘home’ can’t be underestimated.  Which is why at The Apartment Company we want to celebrate the importance of home.

It’s where you find peace

Home is more than the walls that surround you, it’s a feeling that comes over you as you walk through the door.  It’s where you feel most comfortable, a place where you can find peace amongst the chaos, and it always feels amazing to return to after a period of time away.  You will have your favourite spot where you love to curl up with a good book, and that seat on the sofa that is 100% yours.  There’s nothing like the view that greets you everyday as you stare out across Bath, and it welcomes you with its charms.

And yes that unique feeling of ‘coming home’ may have faded or even disappeared after being confined to our homes for many weeks now, but as the life begins to return to our streets when you walk through your door you’ll remember again how lucky you are to have to have this apartment as your home.  It’s a great time to take stock and reflect on what matters, as well as where you want to be in the future.

It’s a little piece of you

Nearly everyone I have spoken to has done something to their home during lockdown, whether they have spruced up their garden, undertaken those little DIY jobs they’ve been putting off, or changing the colour of a room.  Spending such lengths of time at home has given us a more critical eye; rather than rushing in and out, we’ve been able to assess out apartment’s functionality, causing you to ponder over whether the layout really does work for you and your family, and finally decide if that colour scheme really is what you wanted.

We’ve had time to experiment, to move furniture around, and to realise that we don’t need as much stuff as we have.  But with each stroke of a paintbrush, every hammer of a nail, and every handful of compost spread, you have been adding a little piece of you.  Your apartment has continued to be an expression of your lifestyle, whether your future has a move in it or not.

Precious moments

Our lives are filled with memories, some spark joy and others sadness.  Your apartment is no different – that feeling you had when you walking in for the first time, the time you managed to completely mess up the kitchen, or that moment your little ones decided to do their own decorating.

Unique as this time is, it may have brought many precious memories.  How your neighbours have been there for each other, watching all the faces as you clap for carers every Thursday.  Whether you have found lockdown a blessing or more of a challenge, hopefully you will have found some light that you can look back on fondly.

A message of hope

There is no doubt that this crisis has brought immense pressure and worry for most people.  Having a place to call home can give you a glimmer of hope for the future, we may have some tough times ahead but the last weeks have proven that our communities are strong, our resolve is firm and our hearts huge.  Your home has played an instrumental part in your coronavirus story and we hope it brings you some comfort in the months to follow.

We know many people have used this time to take stock of where they are right now; many have realised their apartment is where they are meant to be, whilst others have felt a desire for more or less space.  Whatever your needs, The Apartment Company are here to support you in finding that important next home.
